State Nomination

If you would like to live in NSW, the State Government may be willing to nominate you for a Skilled Nominated subclass 190 visa, or a Skilled Regional Sponsored subclass 489 visa.

Skilled Nominated Visas

The State Government may sponsor highly skilled and experienced foreign workers who possess a specific skill set which is deemed to be lacking in the NSW work force. The subclass 190 visa allows the holder to live and work permanently in any area of NSW.

This visa requires a state government to nominate you to the Department for Immigration and Citizenship.

Regional Skilled Migration

The subclass 489 visa allows the holder to live and work temporarily in regional NSW, (though possession of the 489 visa may lead to more substantial visas after a period of 2 years).

With the exception of Sydney, Wollongong and Newcastle, any participating regional area of New South Wales may nominate applicants with the required skills under the Skilled Nominated Regional subclass 489 visa.

This visa requires a Regional Certifying Body (currently represented by Regional Development Australia offices), to nominate you to the Department for Immigration and Citizenship.

Keep in mind that DIAC limits the number of NSW nominations in a migration program year through the State Migration Plan. The NSW Government nominates eligible applicants under the quota for a defined number of places available for people with occupations, skills and experience required in New South Wales.
